Even though STD testing is just one of the many ways you can show up proactively for your own health and wellness, we understand the experience can oftentimes be wrapped up with feelings of anxiety or uncertainty, especially in cases where a potential exposure is likely, or if you’re experiencing symptoms.

Although it’s much easier said than done, we’re here to remind you to take a breath. Remember: Most common STDs can easily be addressed and treated with medicine, and in instances of STDs that can cause lifelong infection, management and treatment options exist.

If you’ve come to Everlywell to gain insight on your STD status, please know we’re committed to supporting you through the journey of testing and navigating your results. So, to learn a bit more about what STD testing with us looks like, let’s start by breaking down our testing options and what’s measured in each one:

STD Test - Female

STD Test - Male

In addition to the comprehensive STD tests, we also offer individual tests for HIV, Trichomoniasis, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis, and Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.

So what does the actual process look like, you ask?

While taking your sexual health and wellness into your own hands is something that should be celebrated and not shamed, we understand that you probably don’t want your delivery person to know all your business. Rest assured all STD tests arrive in discreet packaging and the process is designed with your privacy — and peace of mind — at the forefront.

Like all of our tests, once your kit arrives you’ll register it at using the unique ID number included in the box. There are detailed instructions to guide you through the sample collection process and if you should ever have any questions, we’re always here to help. After collecting your sample, you’ll package it up in the prepaid packaging to be sent to a CLIA-certified lab for processing.

After your test sample is processed and your results are ready, you’ll be notified via email of negative results and will receive a phone call if you should test positive. You’ll also be able to access your results through an easy-to-understand report on our secure online platform.

What happens after the results?

Don’t worry — we don’t just drop you off there. If your test results should come back indicating you have an STD present, a board-certified physician will contact you to talk through next steps. In cases where treatment is applicable, the board-certified physician will prescribe the appropriate treatment. (Note: The consultation and prescription are provided at no extra cost. The medication will need to be paid for either out of pocket or through your insurance.)

How often should I be testing?

Just as you probably wouldn’t skip out on an annual eye exam or dentist appointment, your approach to an annual STD test should be prioritized, too. Even if you’re in a monogamous relationship, it’s recommended that sexually active individuals get tested at least once a year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends testing every 3-12 months depending on risk category, but the best way to navigate the testing frequency best suited for you is to chat with your healthcare provider to discuss any individualized risk factors in more detail.

It’s important to remember that just like all testing, knowing your STD status is yet another way of taking ownership of your health and wellness. By incorporating regular testing at a cadence that makes the most sense for your life, you can feel confident and empowered that you’re doing your part to keep not only yourself, but any current or future partners, health and well-being in mind.
