Most cancers are found only after symptoms appear, and today there are recommended screening tests for just a handful of cancer types. The Caris Detect test, available through Everlywell, is designed to help change that — screening for signals of multiple cancers from a single blood draw. Here's everything you need to know about how it works, who it's for, and what your results mean.

Caris Detect is a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood test. From one blood sample, it looks for signals associated with many different types of cancer, including some that have no standard screening option today, such as pancreatic, ovarian, and liver cancers.¹

Importantly, Caris Detect is meant to be an additional layer of screening. It is used in addition to, not in place of, your recommended screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies.

In simple terms, as cancer cells grow they release molecular signals into the bloodstream. Caris Detect is intended for adults aged 21 and older, particularly those who are focused on their overall health or who have an elevated risk of cancer, such as a family history.

The test is not recommended for people who:

• Are under age 21

• Are pregnant, or are less than one month post-pregnancy (including miscarriage)

• Have been diagnosed with cancer within the last three years, including any current or active cancer that requires treatment

• Have received an autologous bone marrow or stem cell transplant in the last six months

• Have received an allogeneic bone marrow or stem cell transplant at any time in the past

• Have received an organ transplant at any time in the past

• Are residents of New York State

Caris Detect returns one of three possible results:

1. No Cancer Signal Detected. The test did not identify any molecular patterns outside the typical ranges. This result is reassuring, but it does not rule out cancer and does not mean you will not develop cancer in the future, so it's important to keep up with your routine cancer screenings and report any new symptoms to your healthcare provider.

2. Atypical Signal Detected. The test found a molecular pattern outside the typical range that does not reach the level of a probable cancer signal. A genetic counselor will reach out to explain your results, and a dedicated Caris navigator will schedule a complimentary follow-up test in approximately three months to recheck. This is not a cancer diagnosis — it is a result to review with your care team.

3. Cancer Signal Detected. The test found a marker that could be an early sign of cancer. A genetic counselor will reach out to explain your results and guide you through next steps after a positive screening result at no additional cost. Your report also includes a suspected tissue of origin along with recommendations to guide follow-up imaging, referrals, and diagnostic evaluation.

Caris Detect is not intended to diagnose cancer. A Cancer Signal Detected result must be followed by confirmatory diagnostic evaluation — such as imaging and tissue-based diagnosis — consistent with standard clinical practice. As with any screening test, a Cancer Signal Detected result does not mean you definitely have cancer, and a No Cancer Signal Detected result does not mean you definitely don't. Your results are best understood alongside your routine screenings and in conversation with a clinician.

Think of Caris Detect as an extra layer of screening rather than a replacement. It does not take the place of proven screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies, Pap tests, or lung cancer screening. Instead, it may help look for cancers those tests don't cover. Continue your recommended screenings on schedule.

Caris Detect requires a standard blood draw at a participating patient service center (such as Quest). Appointments are recommended rather than relying on a walk-in.

Your results will be available in your Everlywell (MyEverly) dashboard, along with a link to the full report from Caris. For Atypical Signal Detected and Cancer Signal Detected results, Everlywell provides a phone notification, with a follow-up email if you can't be reached by phone.
