The active ingredient in Zepbound®, tirzepatide, is a medication that has historically been used to treat type 2 diabetes. ^[1] Tirzepatide helps to increase insulin levels in the body and decrease glucose levels, which improves healthy blood sugar control. ^[1] Tirzepatide can also decrease appetite, increase feelings of fullness, and slow down digestion. ^[1]

Wondering how much Zepbound® costs? Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to paying for weight loss medications. As of November 2023, the manufacturer reported that one month’s worth of Zepbound® is estimated to cost around $1,060 without insurance. ^[1] With insurance, the cost is still highly dependent on your plan. Keep in mind that the cost of medications, including Zepbound®, is subject to change. It’s important to reach out to your insurance provider if you have questions about what is and is not covered. The cost of Zepbound® is not included in the cost of Weight Care+.

Zepbound® comes in a single-dose pen, meaning there is no mixing required, and there is no need to see or handle a needle. ^[5] Zepbound® is administered as an injection under the skin of the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. The medication is administered once per week at any time of the day. ^[5] Your healthcare provider can give you more information on dosing, administration, injection site, and more.

Zepbound® comes in six dose options, including 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg. ^[5] The manufacturer recommends that all patients begin treatment with a 2.5 mg dose, then increase to 5 mg after four weeks. ^[5] The dose can continue to increase in 2.5 mg increments every four weeks as directed by a healthcare provider.
