Prolactin is the pituitary hormone behind milk production. Outside pregnancy and breastfeeding it runs low, and when it runs high it can disrupt cycles, fertility, and libido in anyone.
Stress, sleep, a recent meal, exercise, and several medicines (some antidepressants, antipsychotics, and stomach medicines) raise it, so a mildly high value is usually repeated before anything else. Very high values lead to imaging.
